About Bedford

Presbyterian Church in traditional stone

Jewel of the Eastern Cape. The annual Garden Festival seems to draw huge interest but I doubt AJ had that on his mind. This is an old Settler Village nestled at the foot of the Bedford Mountains and only 1 HOURS DRIVE from Grahamstown. There is an ancient mountain forest near the town. Take this Buffalo park..... the oldest cricket pitch in the Eastern Cape (The Old Mill), was once an old flour mill and is one of Bedford's treasures.
Huntin', shootin, fishin' kinda town with abundant wildlife for the sporting type.
Bedford was founded in 1854. Sir Andries Stockenstrom named it after his good friend the Duke of Bedford. Most of the Scottish settlers settled there, amongst them Thomas Pringle who began the fight for press freedom in South Africa later began our first independant newpaper (I wonder what he would have made of JuJu?)
